Curating Screen Publics: From Networks to Interfaces
Paper presentation by Nanna Verhoeff and Marijke de Valck for Network TV International Seminar, on Network and Post-Network TV Studies. In this presentation we explore the productive connections between our research on the curation of urban, public screens with some key concerns within television theory. Interested in the specificity of the dispositif of urban spectatorship, we zoom in on the notion of ambience, as discussed in Anna McCarthy’s Ambient Television (2001) and the more recent book by Nikos Papastergiades et al., Ambient Screens and Transnational Public Spaces (2016).
