International Conference on Sustainable Development

In today’s world, sustainable development is crucial to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This is why we have chosen the theme “Towards Creating A Green Future” of this 3rd International Conference on Sustainable Development, 2019 (3rd UIU-ICSD 2019) organized by Institute of Development Studies and Sustainability (IDSS), United International University (UIU), Bangladesh.

This theme is closely connected to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which is an important area for tackling the challenges in achieving sustainable development. Sustainable Development is not free from debate, criticism, ambiguity and rhetoric. It is never unchallenged, because the forms of development interventions are constructed within the framework of economic growth model dominantly. Economic growth theory sees development as a process of capital formation which, in turn, is largely determined by levels of savings and investment. And establishing control over investments by the institutional arrangements of the investors. It is argued that linguistic representations of sustainable development have considerable influence on the policies of development intervention, and act as a framework for organizing and providing orientation to experts and policymakers as they exercise their knowledge in finding solutions to the world’s problems.

The 3rd UIU-ICSD 2019 is one of the initiatives of partnering with the government towards attaining the challenges of sustainable development and facilitating forums of collective actions in national, regional and international levels. This conference on Sustainable Development provides a unique opportunity to bring together stakeholders from government, knowledge institutions, academia, international agencies, NGOs, private development sector, and grassroots organizations to share practical solutions towards the achievement of more sustainable and inclusive societies. The conference also aims at creating a platform to share research-based knowledge and inform policy decisions about the models of sustainable development and required paradigm shifts to deal with the most important issues facing the world.
